Speedwork & 9 miler - 12 days to Boston!

Training the last days before Boston ----- and feeling GREAT!
Below photo Steve took this winter when I was training with Oakley (March) --- in my CW-X tights.  Love them!

April 7 Training Run: 9 miles @ 8.5 min/mi  (including stop & Oakley warmup)

 April 6 Speedwork Training Run:  5 mi @7:55 min/mi
Speedwork on Rural Road by nanskimtn at Garmin Connect - Details

12 days before Boston and getting in some great speedwork to feel strong for the big day!  Running up Bay Rd Hill this morning my mind wandered to Heartbreak Hill and a few memories I have of that piece of Boston --- and how it will feel this year.....

The Good:
  • Training is going well - 4 -20 milers with lots of hills in training
  • Met some great people along the way with the DetermiNation campaigns and local training friends.
  • ACS has a special shuttle to the start.  Will feel Xtra special at Boston this year.
  • The start is all downhill for the first 11 miles!
  • Twitter has been a fun mode to keep me connected to all that is happening.
  • Goal????  3:08  (not sure I can do a PR after that amazing 2007 3:05 in Boston)
  • CWX tights!

The Bad

  • I think of "bad" as BAD - meaning good  :)  So this is more GOOD - talk about a positive thinker
  • Music --- I love my music and discovering and listening to new music on my runs
  • Media - I was featured on Boston.com  --- was hoping for More.com (but haven't heard anything) and maybe even other ops, but who knows.  I haven't run fast yet, but you need to tell your story a LOT to get some attention.
  • Goal????  3:15 will match my Marine Corps Marathon time and that was good --- still have a shot at a good master (age group finish)
  • Nutrition - still need to figure this out ----watching my stomach issues and trying to eat right and get hydrated even with 2 weeks out.
  • Weight is ok - need to drop just a few more to feel just perfect
  • Need new shoes --- ordering today - hope they break in on time.

The Ugly
  • Weather:  I hear it may reach the 60's which is hot for me.  I like it cold.
  • Screams from the college girls at Wesley College in Natick (guys love it - I find it ear piercing)
  • 12 days is going to go fast!
  • Goal?????  Depends on HOW ugly - but a lot of people "just want to finish" --- I always want more, which is credited to my competitive nature.  3:30?  I guess that would be ok.   But I really want to push hard!

A great summer time wine to enjoy with friends!  Steve and I love to enjoy this one with a 3 egg omlett on the deck overlooking the rocks!  :)  A great tasting fresh flavorful wine!

Cellar/Tasting Notes
Aromas jump from the glass with abundant fresh green lime and grapefruit, combined with subtle notes of melon and orange rind. The flavors are full, round and vibrant, textured with the same green lime and grapefruit, and followed by refreshing tones of citrus and crisp acidity.

Tour de Amherst - #4 - 20 miler

Tour de Amherst - #4 - 20 miler by nanskimtn at Garmin Connect - Details

First weekend off of the spring after finishing at Mount Snow on Sunday.... so I planned to do a long run this morning.  I headed out with my Garmin which I love because I can improvise on route and just run as if it is a tour of the countryside.  I find that I get bored on the bike path.... but it is so flat and fast and no traffic, that I have to put pieces of it in my route.  I ran out toward Amherst thinking of touring the green because it was such a cool scene yesterday seeing everyone out enjoying the spring....  but I didn't make it that far.  It's quite the run from Belchertown when you add in all these side roads.  I felt great after warming up with Oakley with a little speed --- I kept an eye on my pace right around 8:30 - 8:40 m/mi.  I think that is where I am most comfortable in training.  Thinking about Boston because it is so close and really how will I perform on that day.  What are my goals?  What do I really think I can do?  I will put some thought to that this week.  :)  Most likely right around 3:15 depending on my stomach which was my detriment in DC.   I love my music and Rihanna kept me going the whole way --- her upbeat music and voice just kept pushing me the whole way.

2 high spots to my tour ----

Links to spots of interest along the way!

Fuel:  Banana, 1 GU and Shaklee Performance
Recovery:  Pineapple juice, OJ, Frozen Strawberries & Yogurt, Performance & Physique with ice in the vita mix.
Powersong:  "Rude Boy" by Rihanna

16 days to go to BOSTON!
Taper time.....   need to feel out my speed a little more this week to see what my stomach can handle in order not to be feeling yucky in the marathon like in DC.

$1320 raised --- only $680 to meet my $5000 goal for ACS Determination!
Please support my efforts.  I am now #5 in the rankings!  I think I could get #3, but need some help!  Thank you to all my donors!

Top Three Thursday - What's behind your name?

The Blog Carnival continues.....   You should try it:)  Just link above or at http://www.confessionsfromaworkingmom.com/  add yourself to Mr. Linky and blog hop around and meet some new bloggers in this virtual world!

This week's rendition of T3T is the question:
"What are your top 3 favorite names?"

Schuyler - I have to say there is a reason why I named my son --- after my grandfather on my dad's side.  Schuyler Shepard Peck was his name and my due date was 100 years to the date when Grampa Schuyler was born in Saratoga, NY.  Then of course I was 5 days late...... none the less 100 years and 5 days later, the next Schuyler was born.  I didn't know that fact until the end of my pregnancy, and it makes a great story.  Schuyler is a very strong, tall, young boy now and following in my dad's footsteps, so I am very proud that I named him Schuyler.  What an amazing child.

Nancy - I actually love my name.  My mom's story is that she named her dolls Nancy Ann and was going to name me that (also after my Grama Anne who turns 90 this year!)....  but the neighbor up the street named her little girl that name and I was left with Nancy Elizabeth.... which I think is very regal / royal / fancy and no crazy nick names..... just a "Nance" or Fancy Nance ----- :)  I think it a very pretty name too --- :)

Stephen -- yes, my husband's name -- and not JUST because I am so madly in love with him.....  But the "phen" is the best on this name...  and after you hear the Taylor Swift song "Hey Stephen" you love it even more.

Until next time!  :)
Leave a note if you stop by!

Winning Wine Wednesday ! Edna Valley Chardonnay

Here it is ---- a concept to share along with all the memes for blogging in the virtual neighborhood --- This is a day to share your favorite wine for the week -- >>

My choice this week:
Winery: Edna Valley Chardonnay Paragon San Luis Obispo 2007 750ml

Varietal:  Chardonnay

Region: California , America
Vintage:
2007
Size:
750ml
Wine Type:
White

Value/ Price:  $9.99 - $15.99

How you were introduced?
This wine is an all time favorite back from my waitress days .....  I think it was Hawk Resort in Plymouth, VT that serves this fabulous wine... but we recently rediscovered it at FH Gillingham's in Woodstock, VT and then at Liquor 44 in Hadley, MA.  It is a favorite and stocked in our little wine cellar downstairs.  Yummy!

Edna Valley Chardonnay Paragon San Luis Obispo 2007 - Bright tropical fruit, fresh peach and green pear mark this fruit-driven Chardonnay. Subtle oak nuances add depth and round out the body with vanilla, caramel and nutmeg. The intricate interplay of lively fruit and barrel-influenced complexity develop across the palate and linger through the finish, leaving the suggestion of pineapple and coconut playfully dancing off the tongue. A perfect complement to chicken salad or fresh grilled salmon.

Please leave a link and comment to your favorite wine selection for the week!  I would love to hear from you!  Thanks for stopping by.

Bermuda Open photos!

This has to be the most fun race of the whole season.  We get to see all levels of skiers (a LOT of Mount Snow racers and some of our local favorites!)  :)  J3,4, and 5's race on Charlie's Chase over a couple speed bumps that can make or break a ski turn....  we had a LOT of crashes this year with the hard snow and the kids going all out for the end of the year.  Crazy and fun!  I always some great photos off the top jump and had to share.  More than 1200 photos, it was tough to break them out in separate galleries for the mountains not knowing who is from where and knowing there are people from everywhere - - Berkshire East and KMS to name a few.....  so here is the mass of photos even after deleting the ones that weren't so good ---- Take a look!

The Nitty Gritty --- The Good, Bad & the Ugly

Here is another opportunity sent to me through facebook to feature ski tips and tricks.  I put this together for Snow Pro - not knowing if it will see print, but thought I would share it with all of you - skiers and potential skiers.  I love the sport and hope that everyone has the opportunity to try this sport at least once in their lifetime!

Subject: Be Featured in SKI Magazine
Dear seasoned PSIA instructors,
Whether you’ve been instructing for one season or 30, you undoubtedly have a wealth of knowledge about and experience with the good, the bad and the ugly of ski teaching. We want to bring your collective wisdom to SKI MAGAZINE readers (your clients) in a special instruction feature that will run in our January 2011 issue.

The goal of this article will be threefold: First, it’ll give readers specific tips for improving their technique in challenging situations. Second, it’ll give them general advice about getting the most out of a lesson, being a good student, picking the right instructor and how to put your kids/spouse/friends on a path to lifelong skiing. Third, and most important, it’ll give you and your ski school great exposure.

The Nitty Gritty

What are some the most common problems you see in the following terrain types and what are your best/most effective tips or drills for each? Get specific and think outside the box here. Everyone has heard the tip “look two bumps ahead,” when skiing moguls. A better tip would be something like this: “Avoid the back seat in bumps by learning to tailhop. A tailhop is a hop-turn in which your ski tips stay in contact with the snow as your skis’ tails are displaced. Linked, these turns resemble a windshield-wiper action with your tails. The key is to drive your hips forward toward the balls of your feet as your ankles are extending. Try these turns at the tops of moguls—you’ll find you go down the back side in balance while maintaining ski-snow contact, and you’ll be ready to take on the next bump.”—Miguel Bilbao, Bogus Basin, Idaho. Or maybe you have tips/drills students can perform off the snow, such as jump roping to improve agility in the bumps. In other words, this door is wide open. The more creative and concrete your insights, the better!

a.    Bumps - Visualization - keep your eyes ahead, hands up while you stab the mogul (on the downside) and ride the luge to carve each turn!  A progression in the bumps is key to going there.  Start with short swing turns, hop turns and then translate that into different ways to ski the bumps, whether it is carving the bumps, GS turns in the bumps or the ZIPPER line!  Reach out with your feet and absorb each bump...  rotary movements are important to keep moving at a beat to move you down the hill.
b.    Powder - Slow bunny hops to weight and unweight, keeping your balance steady & centered - Visualize yourself dancing on the clouds, puff, puff, floating, smooth turns are a must, balance is extremely important as always.
c.    Crud - Dive into it - its' all about attitude and strength!  But stay balanced knowing one wrong move can put you head over tea kettle or in the back seat, truck and out the back end!  :)  Once you start don't stop, you could get stuck!
d.    Ice - Edging, Balance needs to be right on to get this right and NEVER call it ice!  If it is indeed ice you need to focus on the next granular piece of snow where you can edge.  The goal is to look good on the frozen granular and make it look easy, like there is no ice!
e.    Trees - Safety first (pole straps off, goggles down & have a partner.  Know the boundaries & where to meet at the bottom).  Then have fun!  See the snow & do not focus on the trees, same skills in balance & edging and crud and powder now need to be translated to the trees!
f.    Steeps - Know the path, find the line, adjust your balance appropriately to maintain the turn shape and rhythm.  Balance, rotary and edging --- focus on the edging as you make your way down the trail.  Hop turns are a good progression using less steep terrain to practice the movements necessary to translate into the steeps.

Children
What do you wish every parent knew before enrolling his/her child in ski school?
1. How to dress for warmth in layers and socks.
2. What ski boots can do to make or break the experience in where the child is set up for success or failure.  Any boot that sets the child upright in their stance makes it harder to get them into a forward flex position and then centered on top of their skis.
3. How to celebrate the success of each learning and the joy of the sport of skiing!  Have fun with your child, join in on their fun - be interested in their progress and ski with your child as much as possible.   Make it a family activity that is a part of your lives.

How can parents prepare their children for a successful ski lesson?  Proper clothes, good physical shape and positive attitude about learning a sport.  Communicate the sport as it relates to other interests that the child may have so they are not apprehensive about trying and learning.

How can parents get children excited about skiing?  Share their fun skiing experiences, talk to the child about how much fun this will be to do as a family.

What can they do in the weeks and days before a ski vacation to prepare the kids?  Activity that resembles skiing and practices balance.  Balance boards, trampolines, balance beam activities, and even other cardio sports to get them to a point where skiing is going to be no problem for them physically.  Wear the proper layers - sometimes it is tough for the child to want to wear a LOT of clothes, so it is good to practice, or try the layers on.

What can they do the morning of a lesson?  Feed them!  A good breakfast goes a long way.  If they have enough energy to maintain the morning the instructor can keep them going on the snow.

Also, what should every child carry with him/her (extra pair of gloves, sunscreen, cash, phone numbers, prescriptions, lip balm, tissues, etc.).  Hand Warmers!  Toe warmers if necessary.  Something small to eat (granola bar?)

How can parents ensure their children remain excited about skiing after a lesson?
Celebrate success!  Ask what they learned, what was the most fun, who they met, and any highlights of the day.

What’s the best way to derail the progress a child has made in ski school?  Discard the excitement that the child has about skiing.  Challenge what the instructor has taught the child with other personal experiences.

Good, Bad, Ugly

What makes a good lesson? Progress in skill, positive learning experience, connection with instructor and understanding of lesson to grow your interest in the sport.
Or in one word - FUN

What makes a bad lesson?
NOT FUN, Not challenging, not focused on goals that were shared in the beginning of the lession.
No learning, no progress, more confusion

How can a student ensure he/she gets a good one and how can he/she avoid a bad one?
Trust your initial instincts.   Don't worry about good/bad and make it your lesson!

What makes a good instructor?  positive, energetic and loves the sport to want to share it with others
What makes a bad instructor? tired, non enthusiastic, scattered with no plan

What makes a good student?  So funny that this answer is the same as the instructor question above for me, but the positive, energetic and desire to learn is the best student to have...
Bad student?  No goals or desire - as if someone made them take the lesson "for their own good"

What role should the student play in directing a lesson?
Communicate background, experiences, past lessons & learning.  Ask questions if they don't understand to clarify instructions.

What are the advantages of taking a private lesson?
One on one focus with an instructor makes it possible to drill right down into your own goals for learning.

Disadvantages?
You don't get the advantage of feeding off the enthusiasm and successes of the others in the group.  The social aspect of skiing can be so much fun!

What are the advantages of a group lesson?
Meeting other people.  Learning at the same rate.  Learn from others mistakes and successes.
Disadvantages? Not enough time to focus on each individual needs as much as may be necessary for maximum progress.
What size group is too big?
8

If a student doesn’t feel that the instructor is the right fit, what should he/she do about it?
Go to the ski school desk and request a new instructor in the beginning of the class, after the class and before the next class.
What are some of the most common downfalls to a lesson?
Lack of understanding of concepts and application of those concepts

There’s more to a good lesson than improving a student’s technical performance. What are the other benefits of skiing with a pro?
Learning the mountain - the trails, the love of the sport.  Gaining experience from a skilled instructor that has a background in the ski industry helps to welcome new skiers into the sport.

What is the best thing a student can do to prepare for a lesson? What physical preparations should they make? How about mental/emotional preparations? Gear prep?

You probably see a lot of ill prepared students. Can you give me some examples?
Wrong equipment picked up from their home town, not realizing the latest in equipment and size that would set them up for success.  Comfortable warm clothing is also a must.  Only one thin sock (never double up or wear thick socks) - layers are best so that you have the option to add more and take off layers....

What is the greatest disservice a student can do himself/herself when coming to a lesson?
Mentally set themselves up for success, having a negative attitude and bringing the stress of life to their lesson.

When booking, should/can students request a specific instructor or a specific type of instructor?
Of course!  You always have the option to request a "type" of instructor.  Young, old, male, female -- think how you best relate and could benefit and ask for that type of instructor for you or your child from the beginning.
How can students ensure they’re matched with the best teacher for them?
It is usually through intuition and "connection" - - but an open mind will lead to success without pinpointing a "type" is the best advice I have to offer.

What is the most important piece of information a student can give an instructor at the beginning of a lesson to help craft a good session?  Background, athletic experiences, type of learner (visual, auditory, sensory) and desire by stating outcome wish.

It’s easy to convince a never-ever or beginner level skier to take lessons, but once people reach intermediate and/or advanced levels, they often feel “too cool for ski school.” What’s your response? Why should people take ski lessons no matter their level?
As professional instructors we are always working on our skiing and learning.  It it so important as you continue in the sport to take lessons / clinics in order to be a more efficient skier and enjoy the sport to the fullest.  There is nothing better than improving in the sport you love to become the best you can be and taking a lesson or a clinic is the best way to accomplish that --- make it a goal in your life!

How often should someone take lessons?
As a beginner / intermediate once a week is great!  Or at least once per "trip" if you are a vacation skier.  As an advanced skier once or twice a year I would say would be minimum to staying on top of the sport and the latest techniques.

Tell us about your best student/lesson ever. Why was it so great? What breakthroughs was the student able to make? Why?
Jenna!  She loves to ski --- she would be out there in all weather at the front of the line following me around right on my tail trying to be the best she could be.  Her determination to become faster and stronger and learn the right technique is truly an inspiration.  She was 9, now she is a J5 10 year old and placing in the top 5 in her races.  I am so proud of her!

Tell us about your most challenging student/lesson. What went wrong? How could it have gone better?
Top of Keystone we have a beginner area and to gauge the strength of a student near the end of the lesson was always a challenge.  I remember wishing we had more time to work on skills before going down the front side.  In hind sight I would have given her another day and tried the front the next day.

These are my thoughts, tips, musings, anecdotes about my time as a ski instructor.  Take the time to try it -- or take the time to refresh and get back into it.  The thrill of the downhill, the refreshing cold air - being outside sliding around on the snow is just amazing --- See you on the slopes!

Top Three Thursday: We are all Hoarders...

Today is Top Three Thursday ---- Link to the Unexperienced Mom site where others have linked up to share their tops for the day!

Todays Top Three Thursday....
What are the Top 3 things you should have thrown away…       like, yesterday?

3.  Hot tub bikini that I honestly will never wear in public, nor do we own or plan on owning a hot tub in the near future....  and when we get one, I think I will deserve a new bikini!  :)

2.  Jewerly -- I collect wooden jewerly boxes and have filled them up with jewerly I honestly don't know if I will ever wear again.  But where should it go?  That garage sale that we have been planning for the past 3 years has not happened, and do people really buy old jewerly from strangers anymore?  I was thinking my neices.... I have 4 of them and they may just appreciate it.....  any other ideas?

theunexperiencedmom.com1.  This old LL Bean suitcase I have owned since 1999.  I am looking at it right now, so it is definitely still usable, but it has been flying more than 200,000 miles!  Back in the days I used to travel a lot this was the case that got me there with a carry on...  I can fit EVERYTHING in it --- love it!  They don't sell them anymore or I would buy a replacement as I have been shopping for something similar.  Although I will not get a suitcase with my name on it again --- the bag check guys and security folks think it is funny to say hi (as I have never met them) because they know my name from my bag.  There are coffee stains galore on it and at least 2 of the side zippers are now broke....   I need a NEW suitcase!  :)

I have a pile in the basement --- crazy when I moved here 3 years ago there are still things in the basement I have not gone through to decide whether to keep or sell and there is a BIG pile in the corner for that elusive garage sale!

Winning Wine Wednesday! Titus Zinfandel

Here it is ---- a concept to share along with all the memes for blogging in the virtual neighborhood --- This is a day to share your favorite wine for the week -- >>

My choice this week:
Winery:  Titus
Varietal: Zinfandel / Petite Sirah
Region:  Napa
Year:  2006

Titus Zinfandelhttp://www.whwc.com/p/304838?utm_source=Vinquire&utm_medium=WineFeed&utm_content=2006+Titus+Zinfandel+Napa+Valley&utm_campaign=base&v_traceback=c0328_2347_f0329_0652

Value / Price:  $25 per bottle or in a restaurant $45

How (or who) you were introduced:  My friend Judy Reichling

Drank this wine with Iris & Judy - March 24, 2010
Where you first tasted this wine:  Giovanni''s on the Hill in St. Louis, MO

Tasting notes:
Producer notes: "Aromas of boysenberry, raspberry, and fresh black and white pepper are wrapped in dark baking chocolate and spices on the nose and translate through to the palate. A solid tannin structure integrates throughout but does not overpower this nearly full bodied dark and brooding Zin. With generous complexity and red fruit concentration the long finish is enhanced by barrel spice, vanilla and coconut notes imparted by the American Oak used to age this wine. Recommended drinking time is three to five years from vintage with a maximum suggested aging time of eight to ten years from vintage. We also recommend decanting this wine for about an hour prior to drinking. 86% Zinfandel, 14% Petite Sirah. 1,835 cases produced."

Share a wine or a comment below!  :)  If you blog this on your blog --- please share that link as well!

Post it Tuesday

Step 1 - Mark it on your calendar it is Post it Tuesday!   What a great concept by "Supah" - author of the FAMOUS Adventures of a Wanna Be Supah Mommy.  She has it all outlined here on her blog and then every Tuesday she collects the links to what others are "posting" on their blogs.  It is a great way to visit other blogs of interest and check out the virtual neighborhood!

Adventures of a Wanna-Be Supah Mommy

Step 2 - Think of your own post its - inspirational, facts, thoughts - whatever is top of mind right now, today and something worth sharing (or not).  :)

Step 3 - Make your own post it here --- http://wigflip.com/superstickies/

Step 4 - Post it to your blog

Step 5 - Share your link with Supah - or me in my comment section.

Leave me a note if you stopped by -- I love to hear your comments!

A WOW idea!
My idea is to somehow incorporate "Post it Tuesday" in our trainings, whether face to face or virtuall.  I have to figure the virtual method besides blogging --- but in a training how about supplying the group tables with Post it Notes - explain to the audience the concept and have them write one - three notes sharing what is top of mind, a funny, a quote, a "conversation" -- just like we do here.  Set up a Parking Lot Flip chart place where people can put their notes and leave it up all day.  Then people can go there to see what others have to say.  Angie had some other thoughts, but I thought it would be a great concept to use in our meetings / trainings!  :)

What are your Top 3 quirks?

First of all - - I am with this one person that had to really get down to the definition of quirk....

According to dictionary.com, this is what they list as the meaning of “Quirk” :
noun 1. a peculiarity of action, behavior, or personality; mannerism: He is full of strange quirks.
2. a shift, subterfuge, or evasion; quibble.
3. a sudden twist or turn: He lost his money by a quirk of fate.
4. a flourish or showy stroke, as in writing.
5. Architecture. a. an acute angle or channel, as one dividing two parts of a molding or one dividing a flush bead from the adjoining surfaces.
b. an area taken from a larger area, as a room or a plot of ground.
c. an enclosure for this area.
6. Obsolete. a clever or witty remark; quip.
–adjective 7. formed with a quirk or channel, as a molding.

Now with that in mind, just like in an interview we may want to make the quirk an actual "good thing" that makes US sale-able....  but I prefer to be honest....

My top quirks:
1. I fall asleep to the TV --- sitting on the couch, watching a good movie or a show that we are following (our latest is LOST - but we watch them all from the start - season 1 and it is AWESOME!).  My head bobs, and then I am OUT like a light.  Then the denial comes in --- "no honey - I am awake, please can we keep watching it" -- and out again.  I fall asleep and I hate to admit it, like it is some form of defeat or something.  I end up watching the end of the episode alone or worse yet - Steve has to watch it all over and we have to figure out where I can't remember anything to get where I fell asleep - which is usually much earlier than when I nod off.  :(

2. Jackets - I love jackets.  Not sure if this is a quirk or an obsession.  Some people love shoes, hand bags....  I have a jacket for almost every latest marathon (since I had enough money and can afford to buy them) "expensive" once of a lifetime marathon jacket.  Yet we all know it won't be my last marathon since I have run 23 of them and plan on running more.  The flashier the better, as it is a way of "bragging" that I DID IT without having to say a word.  My fave jackets are the Boston marathon since not many people have them and it is the Grandy Daddy Olympics of marathons!  I have 4 Boston Marathon jackets (actually bought this year's early so I could be assured my size!) and approximately 4 others along with the plain running jackets in the closet.  My biggest brag jacket is the 2002 Boston marathon jacket because I ran it 6 months post partum and well -- that says it all.  :)

3. I can't sit still.  I have to keep moving....  I need to run / exercise / get outside every day.  Running is an obsession, but the fact that I can't get through the day without some type of activity may be a quirk in my mind.  Relaxation is tough for me.  Sitting still, not blogging, taking time for the massage chair, etc.....  My mind races thinking of all the things I need to get done each morning. I am a morning person (obviously if I am out like a light at night!)  Laundry, housework, cleaning the car, the yard, putting things away.... my family calls me the "mover".  Hopefully everyone can figure out where I have put everything.  In the meantime....  let's go!  :)

Make sure to check out what everyone else has quirks about at the above link (Top 3) and leave a comment if you've stopped by. I love getting them and I'll come return the favor!  Thanks for dropping in!

Sharing my newest playlist!

I love music.... I love music when I run....  it truly helps those miles and helps me pick up the pace.
I try to pick songs that are upbeat and some that are motivational in words.  This is not a complete collection of powersongs like my VT City Mix, but none the less a great playlist.

Tips to acquiring music:
New music Tuesdays - free on Tuesdays from Itunes,
Free at Starbucks whenever I can get it and then the
Occaisional Itunes gift card for Christmas
Stop & Shop deal where you buy $50 in tunes and get $10 on your groceries later....
Suggestions from friends

So here it is the list!   Hope you are enjoying some good music yourself and please share it with me!

2 Town Tour - #3 Long Run - Boston Marathon Training

Garmin Connect -
Activity Details for 2 Town Tour

What a great day for a run -- it was 40 degrees outside when I stepped out the door with Oakley to run his warmup of 3 miles....  It was a bit chilly inside the house, but I warmed up enough to take off my fleece vest and continue my run after a short break to fuel up at home.  I headed out remembering my long runs in prep for MCM and took the route to Ludlow, my normal commute to BDL and then looped back home.  It was a bit hilly and my legs felt worn out for some reason, so the pace time is not as great as I hoped.  Thinking my sneakers are not great for my stride and structure of running causing my right knee pain.  Time to CHANGE!  I had hoped to get in 20, but I left at almost 11 with no breakfast (which may also be the reason for slowness), so at the 15 mile mark I decided to head home instead of over Harris Mountain Road.  Great to get it in --- not sure if another 20 is in store, but thinking that it is time to put in some speedwork, maybe a semi long and then taper.  I will look at the Hal Higdon emails I get from the Determination program - - and hope that they may fit my schedule now that the ski season is complete for me coaching on the weekend.

Plan for the rest of the week - run long in the morning for a back to back blast.  One more long run next week - depending on logistics flying to St. Louis

Fuel:  Met-RX Powerbar (Steve's favorite bar), 1 GU and Shaklee Performance
Recovery:  Pineapple juice, OJ, Frozen Strawberries & Mango, Performance & Physique with ice in the vita mix. Banana & PB!

34 days to go to BOSTON!
