Mildred Shaw was born August 25, 915 to Augustus and Carrie Nichols Haas. She graduated from Schuylerville High School in 1932 and the Eastmas School of Business in Saratoga Springs, where she trained as a stenotype operator. She married Robert B. Shaw October 19, 1940. Milly was office manager of the Schuylerville Wall Paper Co. and United Board and Carton for 40 years. She enjoyed all crafts, sweing, crocheting and especially fine rug hooking.
Great Aunt Milly was my Grama Vi Peck's sister. After we lost Grama, Milly became the matriarch of our family. All of our family reunions, functions, picnics and get togethers -- Milly played a special part and I will always remember her smile and love for life. She loved to talk about her rug hooking and so many would tell stories of how Milly announced herself as a "hooker" to see their reaction. Her laugh and her smile filled the room with love. My Uncle John (Dad's oldest brother) - took Milly out for lunch or breakfast every week and shared time with her riding the back roads and telling stories. My dad, my Uncle Joe & Uncle John were given that story telling gene and we are thankful for the sharing of our heritage and life of the way it was in the 1900's.
Her funeral and celebration was with all the cousins, uncles, aunts, etc. She never had children of her own and was taken care of by all her neices and nephews (my dad included in that group). She was a very special loving woman, very strong and optimistic. I hope to carry on that way through my life and remember the zest and passion for creativity, caring, and love from the stories that are told about my Great Aunt Milly.
Here are some pictures that were shared at the Celebration of Life - her last goodbye. Milly will be missed by so many. I truly miss my dad and celebrate his memory every day - - but when I am with my Peck family I remember him and wish he was here to see everyone, mingle with the cousins, share his stories and give me a hug, a kiss and nod his head in approval. I miss him so very much. His photo is included in so many of the ones below, I can't help but wish he could be on earth with us again. :(
