...tough not to get depressed in the rehab process, so know that it will be ok and you will be able to do it again. My rehab has been slow, so the doctor thinks, but my friend who is a nurse and a pro athlete says I am ahead, so who knows..... I am riding, finally 2 weeks ago I did the loop around Lake Sunapee (26 miles) and I did the Prouty this past weekend. I feel great. I was walking pretty quick too and try to run/walk for the last 2 months, but it still is pretty weak, stiff and feels "odd", so I take it easy. The longest I have run is 2 miles - all on dirt road. My doctor would rather I don't run, so I know I am pushing the envelope there, but it is my passion the past few years (running marathons and all...). Oh well. Riding the bike has been great lately, the hills around here are hard and I have a tough time staying in the saddle, so I stand up quite a bit on the hills.... I am getting addicted to it and actually have ridden 5 days in a row (including 25 at the Prouty - took me 1 hour 20 minutes to do the 25!! - felt like I could do 50!!). So, that is good! Whew! It has been SO long being laid up and stiff. The doc said he will fit me to a brace in the fall and I will ski next year. I think now (almost at 6 mos post op) I am not walking with a limp unless I have been at my desk all day and didn't stretch. Between the miscarriage and not being able to exercise, I put on a little weight, but am getting back down there and feeling good! It is great to have friends that motivate me to ride and care about me every day....
Happy now that summer is here and the new deck keeps calling me! Back to work now...

Portland Maine Marathon
October 2003
Yippee! What a great day. A beautiful marathon (26.2 miles ) course, a lot of great views of the Atlantic ocean, a bit hilly, a bit chilly, but all in all a perfect day. Ran with a colleague from ACS New England, Matt Siegle. Kept a pace of 8 min / mile for the first half and let Matt go his merry way, but I held on to a 8:15-8:30 the rest of the marathon and came in 3 hours 40 min! I needed a 3:45 to qualify for Boston and this is actually the fastest marathon I have run in years!! : ) Feeling pretty good today even after spending the day in airports and planes traveling to Tampa for Relay meetings this week! Feeling in pretty good shape - running daily with my running partner, Oakley, our yellow lab. He sure keeps me motivated. I was 173 overall out of 576 marathon runners, 12 in my age and 36 woman. Less than an hour behind the first female who set a Maine record. : ) 3:41 was my time.

Advanced Moguls - PSIA clinic notes

February 8-9,2001 Killington, VT
Nancy Peck
1. Short radius turns – warm up
2. Jump turns completely against the fall line – getting used to changing the edge base
3. Carve the backside of the bump, tipping to peel. In starting the activity, actively lift inside ski to peel.
4. Pole work is very important – thumb and first finger form a V down the hill. At least thumb and 3 fingers in gripping the pole. Pole strap should be tightened not to hang hand low.
5. Open stance downhill with no counter rotation. Do not follow each turn with body. Keep your elbows out of your ribs. Reach out to extend balance. Polygon of sustenance. More room to turn and move. If pole plant is too tight, you have to jump around the pole.
6. Hit the target. Stab the monster’s paw – punch through the backside – follow through forward not falling backward with hand and overall balance.
7. 10 bump goal with turns – 2 bump over variance limit!
8. Get high, jump bump to bump to extend your body if crouched in your stances. No bending at the waist.
9. Stance is closer when in the troughs, but limiting when not.
10. Keep your “buns” high
11. Slow Dog Noodle drill – Falling leaf drill pushing feet forward, edging and pivoting slither like a snake.
12. Partner up – tendon to turn pinky and big toe. Uphill ski edge hold. Push with lower leg motion against partner with motion to turn on edge.
13. Balance on one ski across hill, show base of other ski to top ski and go into a turn.
14. Hop turns synchronized down a steep flat surface – practice timing and control.
15. Clock example – (Frankie) Come in at 10 o
